“Rachel creates really fun, childhood nostalgia type fine art. Her works remind me of the
captivation one feels when being read a story from the comfort of Mom's lap.”
-Lisa Blatcher, Collector
Rachel M Cotton, fine art painter and illustrator, creates artwork for children and the
occasional inner child at Cotton Studios. Cotton’s work is often described as delightfully
eclectic, vibrantly colored, and whimsical.
With expansive experience in art, illustration, and design, Cotton has collected a handful of
awards and has been published numerous times in South Georgia, Savannah and in the
Southeast. In 2000, Cotton earned a BFA in Studio Art from Brenau University, Gainesville
Ga, and then an MFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005. After
working for several years in the print industry as a graphic designer and experiencing
firsthand the horrors of the economic downturn, Cotton felt it was time to create a successful
creative business with multiple revenue streams allowing her to use her talents to help provide
for her family.
Since that time, she has been passionately building Cotton Studios and purposefully helping
other artists to grow their businesses. Cotton says “I am passionate about my work. Always
changing and growing, my work is a direct reflection of my evolving thoughts and ideas. I
believe that spirit lives through us all, and my expression of that creative energy is my
artwork.” A Georgia native, Cotton is now an Artist in Residence at Arts on Main Gallery, Gift
Shop and Artist Studios in downtown Gastonia, North Carolina. She is a mother, a wife, a
business woman, and an artist in every sense of the word. She believes that creating her life
piece by piece is the ultimate creative experience.
